Gabriel Guzmán is an illustrator and artist born and established in Mexico City. Living in the capital of Mexico has allowed him to have an approach with the artistic scene and with different professionals who are creating an important community, also the influences are infinite because the culture is very diverse and always allows a constant dialogue and change.

Gabriel Guzmán works on different projects involving mural, painting, digital illustration and design as his main tools. He was involved in the world of illustration from a young age due to the taste he had for illustrated books and comics, although his interest was never to become a professional in this area. It was until his years in high school that he became a consumer and spectator of graphic design, and he also had greater contact with the museums of the city and it was thus that he discovered the possibilities that lay behind the graphic and the visual. Later it was as he decided to study Graphic Design and Visual Communication at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the UNAM in Mexico City. And there he was discovering more and more the area of illustration and specialized in it the last two years of the career.

He is currently studying a diploma in Motion Graphics. Its aesthetics could be defined as a mixture originated by the high influence of graphics and aesthetic elements related to the surreal and science fiction, creating a universe full of colors, with contrasts and sometimes saturated compositions. Interested mainly in humans and their relationship with nature and with artificial environments and how they modify and generate social behaviors that define us as agents of change, assimilation and mutation. Human interaction and the most primitive emotions are aspects that he finds interesting to transmit and to be able to play with irony and humor.

Always carrying out exercises to create characters, atmospheres and ecosystems, each one delimited by specific themes, which usually have to do with everyday life, with activities that people usually carry out or with scenarios where the expressiveness and emotions of the characters can be shown. Try that his works are universal, are for everyone. His idea is to be able to visually transcend anyone who manages to meet his work, he considers that the fact that it is not a figurative expression allows it to have a simpler or more digestible scope in every way.

Gabriel Guzmán currently works as an Illustrator at Revista Aire, a magazine that is part of Aeromexico, the largest airline in his country. He also works as a freelancer in different projects focused on illustration, and also on design, branding and art direction. He has worked on illustration projects for different clients and brands in Mexico and in some other countries. He has collaborated with Revista Aire, Revista Encuentros, Ballpitmag, Festival della Resilienza, Everpress, Taller Colmillo, Can Can Press, Nauyaca, Telephone Explosion Records, N10AS, Velociferoz, Mit Up, etc. Also with different social projects, with government agencies focused on culture and youth participation. Besides this he has a more artistic part where he enjoys painting and doing murals in the street but also indoors, depending on the project. This part of him has a furtive search for abstract exploration and for the reconfiguration of public space.

Much of his work has been done for social projects, which seek to strengthen isolated communities in cities throughout Mexico. For him it is very important to dialogue with people through public art, and in this way to promote culture and the interest mainly of young people towards the arts. He has traveled to different cities in Mexico painting, and is looking to reach more places.

Tips to fellow Artists:
Some recommendations that you could make to other artists would be that they always believe in their work, trust their abilities and defend their style. Be consistent with your message and with the projects you are involved with. Always keep learning new things, and seek feedback from friends and colleagues, it is always good to hear other opinions and learn from others.
